anticipation /anˌtisəˈpāSH(ə)n/ expectation or prediction, the act of looking forward
Anticipation is a moment of insight that affords the necessary action to take advantage of what happens next. It manifests in the body as the pause of a wrestler before shooting in on an opponent, the breath of a dancer that accommodates a shaky one-footed landing, or the half-pressed gamepad button of a videogame streamer. We are inspired by every new world record awarded to an athlete, every coordinated flourish of a soloist performing art through the medium of their body, every aching or out-of-practice body that laces up their shoes and goes for a run anyway, and so many more acts of movement that represent the physical intellect and achievement within the human body. But we are worried too: worried as physical education gets eliminated from schools, as wearables reduce our movement to “steps”, as devices continue to shrink our kinesphere and hunch our backs, as performing artists produce work with increasing financial vulnerability. And so, we founded Anticipation Ventures to create a vehicle for enabling the future of human movement, focusing on new ventures at the intersection of bodies and technology.
